Long before the words ever became popularized in
a song, they were a source of inspiration and comfort for many
of those who read them:
There is...
A time to be born, and a time to die...
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance....
A time to love, and a time to hate;
A time of war, and a time of peace.
For everything there is a time and purpose under heaven.
As with all our experiences and people who come in and out of
our lives, we hopefully take away something positive and use those
gifts to give positive experiences to others. Upon introspection,
a time for everything under heaven has little comfort for those
who experience loss, but Budo (the Way of the Warrior) teachings
have always taught us to use our experiences to fashion tools
for cultivation of our spirits.
"Good seeds without water and sunshine do not produce fruit".
The seeds of experience need both challenge of adversity and comfort
of pleasure to grow strong. This means that without the experiences
perceived as negative, how would we know what true "good"
feels like? A life, like a plant, grown without challenge will
never be able to rise to the occasion when the challenge presents
itself.
Those who are present on this page will always remain as incendescent
examples of "fruitful" lives. These lives should not
be mourned, but celebrated with the kind of intensitiy in which
they lived. These people took a full grasp of what it really means
to be alive and to live the life of a warrior. Celebrate them.
We will choose to "not go softly into that good night"
but to go on with a full and eager heart in rememberance of our
Honored Dead.
We are better for having known them.

Tom Bowersox was a man of integrity, honesty, and immovable
sense of family and friends. It has been our pleasure and
the distinct honor to have known him... and we are better
for it.
What we will choose to remember is the man whose stature
at the shoulders and chest was wider than a refrigerator
and whose heart dwarfed those dimensions by immeasurable
distances.
He will never be forgotten and always hold an important
place in our hearts.

Duke Gardner was a man's man and was also adored by the
ladies. He was a true warrior with a heart as big as the
cowboy hat he known for wearing. He will be remembered by
many in the ryu for his sense of humor and his story telling
abilities. Duke frequently had us laughing till we cried
and many of his stories will live on.
Duke was a man of great honor and a great friend to many
of us.

April 2006

On April 1, 2006, the Hoshin world
changed with the sudden death of our founder, Dr. Glenn Morris.
Dr. Morris trained in the martial arts for more than 50 years,
and was a member of the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame. He
was best known perhaps for his sense of humor, straight forward-tongue
in cheek style and ability to live life to fullest. A Psychotherapist,
world renowned author/speaker and Professor he challenged
us to think and re-evaluate. Not only is Hoshinjutsu his legacy
but as are we the members of it. |
