The 3rd or Sandan must create a progressing system of massage techniques suitable for introduction at white belt and escalating. They can teach internal and external meditations, healing techniques, and should have a qualification in massage, shiatsu or some other healing technique by this time.

Promotion to sandan requires that the student has supervisied a dojo for at least two years, has contributed to the spiritual development of their students, and has achieved dan rank in another art.
